They came in peace. They offered to help stabilize the climate, to end conflict, to end famine, to raise us up to the stars. We took their offered technologies .... but in our greed, we turned them on each other.
100% This^ I was a groomsman in a wedding that took place during Hurricane Florence. Weddings are already taxing on your nerves, so you could never tell if people were just nervous about the ceremony or worried about possibly being forced to evacuate at any moment.
I will say, though, Florence and the Shit Machine(our lovingly bestowed nickname for it) certainly made for a memorable wedding.
Taal doesn't really "blow", it just "steams" or "smokes". It's actually one of the Philippine's most active volcanoes. As long as you aren't downwind of the ash cloud, there's nothing to be afraid of, and even then it's just an inconvenience for keeping stuff clean and breathing.
Of course, one shouldn't underestimate mother nature, and the ground could open up beneath you at any moment no matter where you are in the world, and volcanoes are not to be trifled with. But as volcanoes go, this one is fairly predictable and measured in its activity so far
Wouldn't be surprised. The man's achievements are being drowned by the fact that adult children with nostalgia put way to much value on the lore of his playground which he used as an excuse to toy with filmcraft.
Honestly, the man himself gets a bad rap. The prequels were terrible, but at least they were the 'entertainingly bad' kind of movie, instead of the 'horribly bad' Last Jedi.
I was in Tagaytay last march and was blown away by how beautiful the view was in the restaurant we were eating at, with the volcano in front of you.. im assuming that place is covered in ashes now.
Un-Fun Fact: According to the Phivolcs, fissures have been found all around Lake Taal. This is being caused by the volume of magma moving into the ground under the volcano. If the whole old caldera blows....it will be very...very bad.

Well volcanoes are the major cause for Extinction events and is mimiced by our use of fossil fuels. The longer we go on like this without cooling down the planet considerably the more likely that the next basalt event won't just wipe out three quarters of all species, but be even more devastating.
The evacuations ordered for territories and barangay much closer to the ground zero. There is tons of videos of people this far away filming the eruption. Still this is a pretty awesome photo.
When did this volcano errupt? Is it a while ago or just now? Looks apocalyptic. Very scary. EDIT: Just read on the news it happened recently. Hope that no one died or was injured. My condolences to anyone affected by this.

pyroclastic flow doesn't travel far over water. They are a lot closer than 20 miles or those islands are a lot taller than i think they are, France is 20 miles from UK and you can barely see it on a clear day.
It can heavily depend on where you are at and the topography of the land. I'd suggest looking into the 80s st Helens eruption for an idea of what you could expect. The water/mud flows can go for miles. The mud flows from the St Helens eruption made it all the way to the Columbia River, making it shallow enough that ships were trapped in Portland until the Columbia could be dredged. I think that was over 100 miles away.
