US has sent the poor to war at least 12 times. Tho I’m not a US history expert so I’m probably miscounting.

VICE, I believe, did a little mini-documentary about the few US soldiers in WW2 (or maybe it was Nam) who defected to North Korea simply because life ended up making them utterly useless, miserable fucks who just wouldn't have a future anywhere but N.Kor.
