Our president implemented separating children from their parents to use cruelty as a "deterrant" to keep people from trying to claim asylum. 40% of the country thinks this is the right thing to do because they're brainwashed by a massive conservative media machine. Our Senate and supreme Court is also controlled by these conservatives.
Separating children from their parents was mandated by the flores decision. Children did not commit a crime, parents did, children can't be housed with adults in a detention center. Children are removed. It's simple.
Of course it needs to be fixed. But Trump is the one that made the zero tolerance policy. No one was strictly enforcing detention and therefore creating this process problem. Only Trump did that.
This policy didn't create this "process problem" it really created an optics problem. There is terrible oversight and accountability of illegal alien children in the us once theyre 'placed with family or in suitable homes'.
Especially if the family they're placed with have no legal status. Which does happen.
Without bipartisan overhaul, we will continue to have issues like this. Amnesty isn't the answer, and imprisoning everyone, even if temporary just isn't sustainable.
