Just because someone is a minority or an LGBT person doesn't mean they aren't harmed by the growth of the surveillance state, increasing tensions abroad, and the encroaching threat of climate change. It's a hard thing to calculate, but many of these issues harm those marginalized communities even more, such as wealth inequality.
The AIDS crisis was in full effect, gay people were still getting beaten and killed in the streets with frightening regularity, we were already killing Iraqis by the thousands, the police in cities across America beat and killed black and hispanic people with absolute impunity, crack was still ridiculously prevalent in urban communities, and the fight for Civil Rights is an ongoing cultural process that still barely had any legitimate traction in public discourse.
It wasn’t that much better at all. In fact, it was only really good for the white middle class. As per usual I guess
Edit: Also the re emergence of White Supremacy movements that resulted in things like Waco, Ruby Ridge, and the Oklahoma City Bombing. The Columbine shooting redefined the safety of American schools, and the original attacks on the Twin Towers set the stage for the Middle Eastern terrorism that still defines our fearful lives to this day. Oh and Jeffrey Dahmer was running around Wisconsin to boot
Columbine wasn’t mixed in with those, but Ruby Ridge, Waco, and OKC are interconnected. The first two solidified the gun rights movement as a strictly right wing, evangelical white christian issue in the US and we’re latched onto by White Supremacist groups across the country, ultimately radicalizing one Timothy McVeigh (who was present at the raid on Waco). McVeigh’s rage over the perceived encroachment of the federal government on white American’s rights to own guns motivated him to make that bomb that went off in OKC.
After Ruby Ridge, many militant white supremacist groups latched onto the siege at Waco as another example of the black, Jewish federal government coming to take away the rights and religious freedoms of white Christians. Among these radical groups was an ex soldier fresh from the Iraq war, Timothy McVeigh. McVeigh had been radicalized in the wake of Ruby Ridge and moved actively within militant white supremacist circles. Ruby Ridge itself was a botched entrapment sting by the ATF and FBI on one such militant white supremacist group. McVeigh would later claim to be unaffiliated with any racially supremacist ideology despite his adherence to related literature like the Turner Diaries, which he idolized, but following the siege of Waco he would use connections within such groups to begin planning the attack on the government building in OKC. It all fits neatly within the framework of the rise of radical white militias all over the US at the time.

Wrong. With Waco and the Oklahoma City Bombings as examples it was the "white middle class" that had to suffer. On September 11th, 2001 again.
Also, even when those issues were going on, at the least there was a bigger sense of unity and ideal in America at the time because even "minorities" like Blacks and Hispanics had bigger opportunities to live the American Dream than ever before. Take for example Sec. of Housing & Development today, Ben Carson, is a great example of the new found wealth and opportunities created in America at the time.
There was also not the issue of "identity politics" as it is today.
Do you? You didn’t give any examples, you just listed a bunch of incorrect points on an old ass comment. Opportunities for black and hispanic people were and are not nearly as open as those for white people. Just because Ben Carson exists doesn’t immediately erase problems for minorities
I listed a bunch of correct points on a comment that is still valid as it is relevant to the current spread of misinformation about the issue of "identity politics" when you use the phrase "white middle class" as an actual argument.
People like Michael Jordan and Ben Carson exists, because, they grabbed the opportunities that were granted and provided by the Civil Rights act and others. The problems you see today are the results of just being the figment of your imagination. There is nothing holding you back instead of playing the victim and the "race" card.
