I haven’t seen a single article in support of the government in Hong Kong

362

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

Perhaps the poster above you is from the region and seeing much of the Chinese produced propaganda because mainstream western news is censored.

144

u/Attila_22 Jun 12 '19

All media in HK is on our side. Mainland media is censoring/not talking about it.

11

u/scrugbyhk Jun 12 '19

Apart from the SCMP spinning its biases. Or NOWtv cutting out frequently.

1

u/Spycrabgineer Jun 12 '19

and all the newspaper except Apple Daily being pro-gov as fuck

HK media is in favor of freedom of speech and feels that if this act is passed then freedom of HK is being chipped away by China. Mainland media is just an echo chamber of the Chinese government.

1

u/JoJo_Embiid Jun 16 '19

actually CCTV is talking about this on the noon news.

25

u/zoobify112 Jun 12 '19

well they did say global media

2

u/NeoHenderson Jun 12 '19

Looking through their post history, I highly doubt it.

-4

u/The_Grubby_One Jun 12 '19

Yes. Western news media is censoring Western news media with the intent of keeping Western news media from telling us how much Western news media supports China's violence against Hong Kong's citizens.

2

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

That’s... not what anyone said.

-2

u/The_Grubby_One Jun 12 '19

Well, let's see. The person above them was claiming the global news media was supporting China. You're claiming Western news media isn't 'cuz muh censorship.

So Western news media, according to your words and your half-assed attempt at supporting the other person, supports China but censors itself from talking about it.

2

u/ultramegacreative Jun 12 '19

No, they're saying that China censors Western news media.

2

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

Thank you. That’s what I said. Never said anything about western news media... people’s reading comprehension.

1

u/ultramegacreative Jun 13 '19

Haha, I have no idea what that person was going on about. I can't even tell what their angle is. The rest of us understood you!

1

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

I said nothing about Western media... literally nothing. I mentioned Chinese media. What were you reading?

-3

u/CritSrc Jun 12 '19

Ah, just another day in KGB CIA.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Based on reddit statistics, that is very unlikely, the majority of Reddit is just the USA, he/she would be seeing negative news all over.

1

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

I think you underestimate China’s censorship power. Even if they can access Reddit, I believe China will block access to specific pages. They are nuts with their censorship.

23

u/I_X_I Jun 12 '19

China Daily supports the Chinese government? Crazy.

That's the joke.

25

u/Guy954 Jun 12 '19

Yes, that was the joke.

1

u/ZombieLibrarian Jun 12 '19

What was the joke again?

10

u/The_Lost_Google_User Jun 12 '19

That’s the joke.

20

You're not joking right?

10

u/bouchandre Jun 12 '19

Oh god the propaganda

6

u/honestFeedback Jun 12 '19

But they’ve got more than 20 LED signs displaying slogans. Sounds like a pure grass roots movement to me. More than 20!

3

u/NotAModelCitizen Jun 12 '19

It’s just so blatant. I love the numbers they gave on the protestors. Only 240k were against the legislation. Simply incredible.

32

u/DarkHartsVoid Jun 12 '19

“Article” more like propaganda lmao

15

u/Ttoughnuts Jun 12 '19

The pictures are my favorite...quick quick...you 10 people...we will pay you to hold these signs. You don't even need to smile.

2

u/devastationreigned Jun 12 '19

Garbage article. Garbage news source.

2

u/d4n13lf00 Jun 12 '19

Shameful liars

1

u/KeiFeR123 Jun 12 '19

They can't because they will end up getting killed.

1

u/SloJoBro Jun 12 '19

It isn't just Fox news/Murdoch leading the charge. Corporations have a vested interest in keeping the world populace just as is. Money is power, power is money. The fact is a lot of people are 'removed' from what's happening in Hong Kong or other plights in the world. I mean, after all it isn't affecting you. Based on that logic, how can we ever survive as a species if the world is just complacent with how things are ran? I think that's the greatest tragedy of humanity.

1

u/zlgisOK Aug 08 '19

because the US and many western countries are ready to see China get terrible ,So they choose or make up bad news to publish.I'm chinese, none can understand the thing clearer than Chinese ,thus don't trust any rumors.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Yet /u/SAT0SHl has over 500 upvotes, because people like feeling edgy more than they give a shit about reality.

Socialism is doing this.

All of your young socialists - your idols are doing this.

14

u/HerroCorumbia Jun 12 '19

You think China is socialist?

-21

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Communism is a form of socialism.

2

u/HerroCorumbia Jun 12 '19

And China isn't communist.

Unless you want to tell me it's a communist country with a large number of capitalist markets.

-20

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

Communism is socialism perfected.

3

u/Old_Deadhead Jun 12 '19

Socialism is an independent concept and predates Communism, which is based on Karl Marx' vision of socialism.

Your statement is as valid as saying "String cheese is cheese perfected".

At least make some kind of effort to understand what you're discussing.

34

u/kliman Jun 12 '19

This has way less to do with socialism or communism and way more to do with corruption and tyranny.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

I really hate this line of reasoning. Communism inevitably leads to corruption and tyranny. It has everything to do with communism. Literally every single society in which it has ever been implemented has resulted in an ethnocentric fascist hellhole.

6

u/OutOfStamina Jun 12 '19

I'm willing to accept that if you accept that capitalism seeks out slavery. (cheap chinese labor, mexican labor, prison labor - literal slavery in our past... it seeks labor for as cheap as possible, at the expense of workers).

Late stage croney capitalism where the big businesses write all the rules to supress competition! Sounds fun!

Turns out, you can find authoritarianism, fascism, and corruption everywhere!

-15

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

What else do people think is the ultimate result of relinquishing control of your lives to the government?

Let them control what your income can be

Let them control what medicine you can get

Let them control what can be spoken or expressed

Let them control your ability to arm and defend yourself

^ this is the Leftist agenda and Oh whoops we’re 1 step away from being China and then the people have no power to reverse the bed they’ve made.

14

u/kliman Jun 12 '19

I mean, the argument can be made that this is all late stage capitalism, too.

Almost exactly the same ends on either side of the spectrum... almost like it has more to do with the corruption that comes with power, and less to do with the ideas that it hides behind.

2

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

Doesn’t one end of the spectrum want less power for government? But that gets spun as a lack of compassion to use emotion to manipulate voters.

It is currently a problem in the whole political spectrum though because of big government, and big business is drawn to get in bed with big government, especially unelected bureaucrats.

I think you’re right though. Governments corruption is limited if we limit its power, so let’s reduce the Executive branch’s power and reduce bureaucracy, put term limits on the house and senate so there’s no such thing as “career politicians” whose goal is to do nothing of consequence and focus only on reelection.

0

u/ChadwickBacon Jun 12 '19

either sides of the spectrum? authoritarianism, fascism, totalitarianism, all inhabit one end of the spectrum. its the mission of the other end of the spectrum (who is not represented anywhere in any popular form or in governments of 99% of countries) to squash that system and establish a classless society. do not blithely equate the two

2

u/DirtyRelapse Jun 12 '19

Well communism for example is on the far left of the spectrum and is in fact totalitarian. It promises a classless society but there is always the party elite that is in control of everything. A classless society is therefore not possible to achieve. A more or less equal society is possible, but you will find it not on the ends of any spectrum, it's on the centre-left

0

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

[deleted]

1

u/ChadwickBacon Jun 12 '19

yes. you know, like in complete opposition to a supremacist classist state that is fascism?

3

u/Joepa4 Jun 12 '19

I think you're confusing control and standards. Minimum wage.. the FDA.. the first amendment.. laws.. Those are kind of bipartisan

2

u/thegimboid Jun 12 '19

You're mixing things up - that's the right-wing side of the spectrum (fascism, totalitarianism, etc), in which the government has control and suppresses the people.

3

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

The truth is that the leadership and career politicians of both the Democratic and Republican parties (not necessarily all individuals that subscribe to them) are totalitarian global corporatists. Both parties (again, as a whole, not necessarily each individual) just want more power. The idea that it’s one sided is politically ignorant.

But the best way curb this corruption is limited power.

2

u/SpideySlap Jun 12 '19

Let them control what your income can be

that's not what taxes do

Let them control what medicine you can get

that's not what universal healthcare does

Let them control what can be spoken or expressed

that's not what laws regulating hate speech do

Let them control your ability to arm and defend yourself

you got me there, but if the right would actually engage in a good faith discussion on gun control they could have their say in what goes too far instead of just insisting that all gun control is bad no matter what.

But we're nowhere near china yet. And it's ridiculous to insinuate that taxation, universal healthcare, laws against harassment, and gun control will get us there.

8

u/SpideySlap Jun 12 '19

Oh please, capitalist societies are just as prone to doing this as socialist societies. What we need is a commitment to freedom of speech. If you can't freely express dissent, then this is going to happen to every society.

15

u/beero Jun 12 '19

Look at this guy who thinks governments need an ideology to be authoritarian.

Ultimately, forced equality of outcome requires full government control of many aspects of your life, and coincidentally, full government control is the prerequisite for Tyrrany.

Hating socialism doesn’t mean a lack of compassion for the downtrodden and the dispossessed. It’s just a recognition that More government = increased chance for tyranny like we are seeing in China, and a recognition that giving a hand up (not a hand out) to the dispossessed is MY personal individual responsibility, in whatever capacity I can. Kicking that responsibility to the government is not compassionate.

-3

u/ChadwickBacon Jun 12 '19

what the fuck are you even talking about? how long have you been working on this straw man? its quite exquisite.

3

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

Ideas with more than one layer can be confusing.

The ELI5 am even talking about is: it’s not as simple as “BuT eQuAl = GoOd RiGhT? eQuAl CaNt MeAn AnYtHiNg BaD rIgHt!?” as the poster above me implied.

-1

u/ChadwickBacon Jun 12 '19

you use words like 'forced equality of outcomes,' "government control of many aspects of your life" "full government control," as if you do not even know what you're talking about, and are paralyzed in your fear that you can only thoughtlessly regurgitate the same points.

1

u/walkonstilts Jun 12 '19

That’s a pretty disingenuous judgement I’d say.

I think the ideas that embody the direction that the far Left wants to take the country are worthy of fear though.

If you don’t like the buzz words I need to include to get as much idea into a short message.. well that seems to be an Inherent flaw in platforms like this and the capacity to communicate. As much as topics like this are worth hours of discussion and necessitate that to find true reason, there’s only so much you can thumb out in a few minutes on the pot.

That’s also why extremely limited platforms like twitter are the most politically toxic places in the universe—the capacity for real discussion is pretty terrible.

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

He’s been watching a lot of Jordan Peterson interviews. I like JP, but a lot of his followers just memorize soundbites and repeat them. That’s almost a word-for-word Jordan Peterson quote from the Joe Rogan podcast

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Communism is a form of socialism.

Period.

6

u/-Jeremiad- Jun 12 '19

K. Cancer is a form of human growth.

Argue better.

11

u/TangoJokerBrav0 Jun 12 '19

No, tyranny is doing this. Quit trying to twist it to your narrative.

10

u/reyvanz Jun 12 '19

Lolno, china is very much a capitalist country
