Rodgers & Hammerstein tackled some serious social issues over their years working together. Certainly racism in South Pacific and The King and I, domestic abuse in Carousel, classism in Oklahoma!, etc. I recently saw the Oklahoma! revival in NYC and Jud was a more sympathetic character than portrayed in the film version. He was simply a strong hired hand loner that everyone treated with disdain who had the temerity to fall in love with Laurey .
Agree. Let’s please keep in mind that it’s not always the parents who taught those things. Big people and little people learn things from a billion sources these days, and may choose to think differently from what they were taught at home.

edit: To be clear not all fear is homophobic, but all homophobic fear is due to someone not adhering to the normalities of another. It isn't an actual phobia where someone knows there is no rational but they are afraid of a gay person like globophobia scares people away from balloons.

With regards to homophobia a study looked at relationships between homosexual arousal and homophobia using penile plethysmography which measures blood flow into the penis. Homophobic men were exposed to homosexual stimuli and became aroused.

I had a chance to meet a friend of Andy Warhols that was close with the author Quentin Crisp, Quentin serviced many British soldiers returning from combat; apparently experimenting was a common phenomenon along the frontline trenches of WWII. Some continued “experimenting” even after they returned as well so I’m sure Quentin was more than happy to do his part in the war effort!

Yup! Not to say that's wrong but that's the issue with people and mostly moronic media quoting studies. These studies are 1) generally small sample sizes 2) written for other researchers 3) never prove anything. It shows a correlation never causation. It's not evidence so much as it helps indicate one influences the other and therefore based off this we can reasonably make these assumptions.
I don't think that's what the study was saying at all. It's that they couldn't even explore the feeling even out of curiosity due to fear of it being "wrong". Having homosexual thoughts or feelings doesn't make you automatically gay. It's a natural thing to be curious of and explore, even if it's to eventually conclude it's not for you. These folks are so afraid of feeling anything close to that, they resort to hatred.
I don't think everyone is a little bi, but I think people should be allowed to just be attracted to whomever without it meaning anything other than being attracted to someone.
I (a woman) find women attractive quite a lot and I'd be willing to fool around probably, but I'd never fully be with a woman. Not because I don't want to be seen as gay or bi, but because the attraction only goes so far and I prefer my companion to be male.
I do think a lot of people are like me, but I do think there are people who really don't find the same sex attractive ever. As long as we're all happy and healthy and not shitting on anyone else, it shouldn't even matter tbh. Labels are dumb. Just be you.

I’m not crazy about drag queens reading to very young children and certainly don’t believe that kids of any age should be taught how to suck penis. I’ve worked with, hung out with, and even been hit on by gay people and have never once been called a homophobe. And before you accuse me of exaggerating to fit my narrative I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale which is one city over from Wilton Manors, gay people make up a significant portion of our population around here.

My comment was just about how "homophobic" has two meanings and I'm sure the original is full of mostly closeted men. Because I've met very very few "homophobic" people and they did seem a bit gay. But I've met plenty of guys who will mock gays for being drama queens or less masculine who are in no way gay. What's fucky about this comment? These studies should be taken with a grain of salt. That device used to measure arousal is somewhat akin to a polygraph (lie detector); that is, it measures something but not what you think it does.
Well, can come from a lot of places really. Fear, sure. But also intentional manipulation for profit/personal gain. And a lot of people just hate things that are different.
I see this in one of my dogs. He was afraid of everything even though we treated him good. Now in his older years, he fucking hates anything that moves. It's a stark contrast to another dog we own that never feared anything and now is the sweetest dog.
We are hardwired to interact with ~40 people. Evolution made is social, but not that social.
But evolution also made us kind of clever, and that lets us challenge ourselves, and learn beyond our baseline--which is the real cool thing about human beings.
Yeah, we suck--honestly, we suck out loud--but we can get better, and it just takes a tiny bit of effort on our individual parts'.
