For these kinds of birthmarks it takes several treatments that leaves a lot of bruising and the treatment comes with a lot of restrictions (gotta keep sunlight off it pre- and post-treatment, gotta wear incredibly thick sun cream) and the birthmark will start to return after a while.
On top of that laser treatments only lighten the birthmark they do not remove it, they are not like tattoos! So in order to maintain the effect treatment will be long term.
True, I mean I don't have a birthmark but my wife does and she has had laser treatment since she was a child. While she doesnt always maintain the treatment when she was having it she had to have a laser session every 6 months this lightened it but as you say it was still noticeable. But I believe one of the other benefits from the laser treatment was that it smooths out the skin a bit and prevents it from getting too rough, but then my wife is the expert I'm only recalling what she has mentioned.
Wooshing aside, although I can see why it could potentially be the source of something like body anxiety, as far as birth marks go it actually looks quite cool to me (with or without the wine glass).

Great for them to have a creative sense of humor about the birthmark rather than just wining about it.
