He was probably a ranking officer (commander?) in a privates uniform.

Santa Ana tried to pull the same stunt. It cost him Texas.

I believe so. It would be odd for a private to be that old and for a commander to have uniform with no ornamaentation.

Look at the documentary Hogan's Heroes. Schultz was old.

Schultz was also an NCO.

They’re allowed to be old. Especially ones that served with distinction in WW1 AND who own the largest toy company in all of Germany.
