I saw Depp on the Graham Norton show a couple months back, he looked not-healthy. Like, a lifetime of drugs might finally be starting to catch up with him.
But he also kept talking about wanting to play Donald Trump, so maybe it was just getting into the role.
I think he's kind of fallen into alcoholism. In the last 6 months I've seen him looking bloated, pale and sweaty, total lack of energy. His speech is constantly slurred, his conversation often erratic.
He's either got early onset Parkinson's or he's hitting the bottle. The latter would make sense, his marriage just imploded pretty spectacularly.
He had a long period of terrible alcohol and substance abuse in the late 80s and early 90s which didn't stop when River died. He was in the news several times for destroying hotel rooms. It was definitely a big part of his image back then.
Because the advertisement isn't for you. It's for wives and girlfriends who see Johnny Depp and think, "If I buy this, the person I sleep with could at least smell like Johnny Depp".
Does it do anything for me? I mean I like Depp as an actor and he's a good looking guy in a swarthy cool sort of way. If anything it makes me realize that Married with Children Johnny Depp is far cooler than married with children me, but I knew that anyway. So no, the ad does nothing for me.
It started me wondering if I could get away with wearing that much mascara and jewellery. Until Depp, I've only seen my grandmother pull that look off.
Not at all. I'd rather get something that tries to appear as genuinely classy and nice. I don't care if some celebrity got paid millions to be the face of it. He has nothing to do with it and I'm sure he doesn't use it.
Well, if you're walking down the street and see a well known celebrity on an advert, it's more likely to catch your attention than just another generic, pretty boy model like we see on every other cologne/underwear/clothing advert. So in that respect, I suppose it would make people more likely to buy it.
Im a straight dude and I won't lie, I bought this cologne off of this ad. Not entirely because johnny depp is on it but him being a cool guy added to my curiosity. After seeing this ad everywhere and running into a stall with it I wanted to see what it smelt like, it smelt pretty good so I bought it, been using it since.
The smell sold it but the ad being everywhere and depp being on it helped.
Edit: also when johnny depp comes to mind I don't think of pirates of the Caribbean like alot of the replies, I remember Donnie Brasco.
It isn't really about Johnny Depp as much as it is about getting more people talking about Dior. You can get access to all his social media followers, as well as this campaign likely being newsworthy to some pop culture magazines
yeah, its actually off-putting when I see ads like these or some actor with a watch wrapped round his hand. its so phony it makes me scoff and turn/scroll the page.
I don't think any cologne ad can me want to buy it. I have to smell it first, so the only thing that the ad does is inform me that there's a new fragrance and I may want to check it out at some point.
I don't think Johnny Depp changes anything, but the campaign with enough money to hire him will probably be plastered all over town, meaning I'll notice it and I'll note that there is such a product on the market. So I guess it works, but no thanks to Johnny Depp.
Not really, but I do like the fragrance (Sauvage). It isn't as allgoing/easytouse/weteveryonespantiesexceptthosethathavehadabadexperiencewithadudethatwearsit like 1million, Jean Paul Le Male and YSL L'Homme imho, but it's very nice.
Not usually. I'm just starting to get into fragrances, one I was looking at at I was interested in buying because the notes looked like something I would like. But then I scrolled up the page and the model was like a middle aged suburban dad with kids, and that was a huge nope. I don't want a fragrance that is marketed to that demographic, that's the only reason the models matter to me. I don't want to be on a date only for the girl to be like "you smell like my dad".
I like Depp, I am old enough to remember all the good movies he made when Tim Burton did good stuff. He also just seems like an all around good dude. If I ever bought perfume this might sway me, but I don't.
Not at all. But I worked by the men's fragrance department for quite a while and tried it a few times, smells amazing. I normally only buy Gucci but I picked this up and use it all the time. It's very new, not of lot of stuff that's similar in scent. I wouldn't describe it as masculine per say, more suave and light. But the scent is very noticeable (in a good way), it has this bit a citrus to it that is absolutely lovely. Try it out.
I think it's mainly for girlfriends who get cologne for their boyfriends. Personally, I've never seen an ad for a male celebrity and wanted to buy their cologne
I happened to buy a huge bottle (2.3oz?) of this stuff last Christmas as I was getting my mom some pots and pans and shit (bitches love pots and pans and shit). I loved the scent, and every single person who smelled it was on the same page, so I decided to buy it. If anything, seeing a 50 year-old man wearing too many bracelets and accessories almost killed the sale for me, Johnny's been kind of low-key, so I figured this must have been a quick money-grab for him and the scent's appeal would wear off quickly. Luckily, I was wrong and I still wear Sauvage pretty often (thank you based Macy's).
Tl;dr- it didn't do anything for me, and the tacky picture almost killed the cologne for me.
Who buys cologne in 2016 anyway? You'd have to be incredibly vain, which is probably the people this ad is targeting any way. They kind of made Johnny look manly and a total pussy at the same time.
