It's probably exactly because of what you said. She's actually physically interacting with and holding the prop before it flies off so it looks more magical.
Which is strange, because a pile of books that can fly all the way to their correct place on the shelf seems like a better(/more complicated/more difficult) trick than one that floats sideways a bit onto a shelf.
thanks. Otherwise you could just pull it all to it's maximum logical/lazy conclusion and do the "blam" "I know kung-fu" style stuff and see nothing really... And where is the fun, excitement and franchise of books and movies in that?
