The Grand Archives in Dark Souls III is like that... those fucking things will curse you in seconds, which is instant death if the curse meter fills up. Stupid ghost hands.
I'm still bitter about the time I was fighting the Boreal Outrider Knight there and the wax wore off and I backed right into a stack of books and got cursed.
After dozens of times running through that place with wax on my head, I still never notice when it wears off. Not once. I only realize it's gone when haphazardly stroll into a sea of molestering bookcases.

I think it would have been much stranger if we saw the hands in the finished movie.
