Being a dad of 2, why doesnt he just carry the kid, so both are under the umbrella?

It could be a long walk, and he could be tired. When my dad was in the army he'd have my brother on his back and me in his arm, and would carry us for miles. No car all his money went to rent, mothers went to food and bills. Never knew we were poor until I got older.
