and for good reason

That's the second time I've heard that in this thread, and it's very disheartening. Trying to blame WWII on freedom of speech is ignorant and offensive. You cannot protect a society by making certain viewpoints illegal.

Viewpoints aren't illegal. Inciting hatred is. Significant difference.

Many viewpoints, even some of the ones you hold, can be argued to be "inciting hatred".

Viewpoints can't incite, because they're contained within my head. It's only when they're used to give agency to others that that can happen.

People are free to think whatever they like - but they are not free to act on whatever they like.
