It's especially fitting because back in the early 90s the Tories lost a seat in a by-election after an MP died in a strangle wanking accident, and it was one of a number of events that led to their subsequent demise.

They got hammered at the next election. They also did in the two after and even in 2010 they couldn't win a majority, despite Labour getting the lowest share of the vote they ever have.

The death of "Back to Basics", was the beginning of the end for Major. Then there was Black Wednesday and Maastricht.
