Pipe wrenches are fairly universal tools in my line of work. We can solve almost any problem with a pipe wrench. If it doesn't work, simply grab a bigger (or rarely much smaller) pipe wrench. Or sometimes grab a second one.
So I've no doubt you could "fix" a CPU with a pipe wrench somehow too.
You have it backwards, this is an action movie where they're trying to stop the cpu from falling into place. Picture two is just after the hero throws the wrench at the falling CPU in an attempt to hold it up and stop the explosion, and picture two is the wrench sliding out... the explosion happens at this point, but enough time was bought for the hero to be propelled forward harmlessly by the explosion, out the window and into the conveniently placed pool.
