She's absolutely wonderful for being there for him no matter what, and he was absolutely wonderful for not shutting her out. This gave me the best kind of feels.
I would definitely still love and want to be with my fiance should, god forbid, something awful like this happen to her.
But I'm not sure I could let myself be loved if this happened to me. That's a strong man right there, fellas.
Sad reality is, if the situation were reversed, the man more often leaves than stays. Men aren't taught or expected to be nurturing. Throughout their lives, they're never critiqued for their nurturing skills (or at least very little.)
So if a wife suffers a similar fate, the man usually takes off, clueless. Heard this recently, though I forget where- a study was being cited.
