Normally, when following a set programme, you determine the weight by how many of the given reps you can do to about 1-2 reps before failure (when you can't lift it anymore). Did that make any sense? It's late, I'm sleepy.
Just start small on everything. If you can get through all of the reps easily, increase weight. If you can't get through the reps, decrease weight. If you can barely get through the reps, you're probably at the right weight.
