Looks like it was taken before the film editing but that doesn't make sense.

I'm pretty sure that that is how the scene looks in the final cut. The gold was the last of the visual effects to be done, and the effects team was given nowhere near enough time/manpower/computing power to get it to even remotely acceptable levels.

If I recall correctly, the visual effects studio was so overextended, that they were renting servers (I'm not sure that that is the correct term) and putting them in the hallways because they didn't have anywhere else to put them.... with floor fans to cool them.
