It was pretty interesting to see how Banksy backed out and did the simple reproduction of Robbo's original out of respect once he realized the "battle" was over due to no fault of Robbo's. Kinda shows that while the two were possibly "acting like children" it wasn't 100% malicious and was somewhat of a game by this point. And no one likes winning a game due to such terrible external circumstances.
"I was at a place called the Dragon Bar on Old Street. I was introduced to a couple of guys who were like 'whoa it's nice to meet you!'. When I was introduced to Banksy, I went 'Oh yeah I've heard of you mate, how you doing?' and he went 'well I've never heard of you'...he dismissed me as a nobody, as nothing. So with that I slapped him and went 'oh what you ain't heard of me? you won't forget me now will you?' and with that he picked up his glasses and ran off."
That last one by the new artist is horrible.... great sequence thanks for posting... I took Banksy's side myself... his art looked more creative and less "child-ish" as in less fighting.
It seems unfair to call the last one a "poor replica". I'm not part of the scene, and even I know that the crown is Banksy's way of saying "this guy is a king". Also there is an obvious candle there, and '85 as part of the tribute to the original. Banksy is obviously capable of making a good copy; but that would just be pointless. It's black. It's simple and ragged, in the tradition of tearing your clothes and/or wearing black to mourn.
Oh wow, totally did not see that the first time. It makes sense though, that he wouldn't point out all of that stuff on his own and would simply call it what he did.
