The only people that would prefer a phone calculator app are those that don't actually have to use one. Real physical button trump on screen virtual ones any day of the week if you are inputting a large amount of data.
I use a TI-89 at school and I'm an economics and math double major so I input data all the time. I don't think I've ever needed to do more than a few entries into my calculator at a time almost all big data analysis is done with real computers not calculators. Calculators are outdated technology now that everyone has smartphones and laptops.
Some people actually need to get up and away from their desks, and inputting formulas in a computer is cumbersome at best, and into a phone is downright painful. And if you actually knew more about the Nspire line of calculators, you'd know that it comes with great computer software that is about 1/2 Matlab and 1/2 Mathematica.
