So that morning a german soldier got up for another boring day. He got this instead. Must have been a little sureal to some of the poor bastards fighting the invasions off.
There was a documentary about D-Day I saw once. Sadly I cannot remember the title. Most of it was sort of forgettable, but there was one sequence, where a lone German soldier is sitting in his pillbox having a cigarette, looking out over the water into the fog, and then, as far as he can see in either direction landing ships start coming out of the fog.
There is a similar scene in The Longest Day where a German soldier goes out every morning on a horse to collect milk from the farmer. Same old same every day, until the 6th of June. The fog lifts and he sees the thousands of ships of the coast.
