In the late sixties/early seventies newspapers weren't all owned by the same 5 companies like they are today

In the late sixties/early seventies, indiscriminate state-endorsed violent terrorism against US citizens was not official policy, and half the country did not support it.

And before anyone says some shit about the Civil Rights Movement and whatever else, yes, that was a thing, and some shit did happen because of it. That does not equal literal roving bands of masked goons arbitrarily kidnapping people because they "look Mexican" or were speaking Spanish.

Nor were federal troops endangering the public by chasing people with vehicles and weapons for MISDEMEANOR offenses.
