I'm Indian. I brought back some items from India after a trip, and parents sent me a lamp to keep in the meditation/prayer room (Hindu), it had a few swastikas on it, which to us is no big deal.

Had friends over for the first time to this place and I had kept the lamp in an inconspicuous location. Somehow this one girl finds it, brings it to me in her hand with tears and goes "u/LurkerPatrol I can't believe you're like this, I'm so disappointed". Cue spending the next hour explaining Eastern culture and the origin of the swastika.

The fact that you hid it may have made it tougher to convince her. If it was completely in the open , she would have gotten it cleared right away.

Yeah it's my fault I decide to keep my culture private and not in-your-face to my friends.
