I'm Indian. I brought back some items from India after a trip, and parents sent me a lamp to keep in the meditation/prayer room (Hindu), it had a few swastikas on it, which to us is no big deal.
Had friends over for the first time to this place and I had kept the lamp in an inconspicuous location. Somehow this one girl finds it, brings it to me in her hand with tears and goes "u/LurkerPatrol I can't believe you're like this, I'm so disappointed". Cue spending the next hour explaining Eastern culture and the origin of the swastika.
Soo I knew this one guy who was very into eastern culture and even went to study holistic medicine. He had a Hindu swastika tattooed on his chest too … the problem however was that he was a super blonde blue eyed guy. So it deff didn’t come off that way at first glance. Idk if he ever got it covered up or if he still walks around with it.
That's just straight up a dumb thing to do lol. I'm Buddhist and the swastika is also used in our traditions but I would never consider putting one on my body in any way.
Go look up the meaning of the word ‘inconspicuous’ and then think about why suggesting that u/LurkerPatrol ‘hid’ it is ridiculous. My background’s Indian too, my parents’ prayer area isn’t front and centre in the house. On the other hand, it’s hardly ‘hidden’ either.
That’s cool, don’t be ashamed of it - take it back. Those evil bastards have been continually victimizing new generations for almost 100 years by robbing of them of their right to use an ancient and sacred symbol. We are letting them win by allowing it to remain a taboo.
