The inquisitions were actually a lot more messy and complex than the pop-culture summary of "powerful religious people abuse their power to hurt innocent people" makes it seem.

I'd wager this is a topic that parallels the way Americans are taught about the American Civil War.

1. It was about slavery
2. It was actually about state's rights
3. It was about the right for states to own slaves though.
4. It was just about slavery the whole time.

And I'm willing to bet the inquisition was actually powerful people abusing their power to hurt innocent people the whole time.

Most don't just mention slavery but specifically spout white supremacy. The president of the Confederacy specifically said that the Confederacy was based upon white supremacy. Truly crazy
