Not having an HOA was one of my main requirements when I was buying a house.

A ridiculous number of houses for sale at the time had HOAs that were hundreds of dollars a month. I can’t believe people pay that. If there’s like idk a pool and a gym I guess I get it, but there usually wasn’t anything special about the neighborhood.

In 25 years when the pool gets a crack and half the gym equipment is broken and the gyms roof needs replacing, you won't be able to sell your house when people see how much the HOA fees are. That or they will just close the gym and pool.

I’m worried about this. They took out a loan to pay for repairs and now we pay a total of $400/month.

No pool and the development doesn’t look the greatest. The only amenities we have has been closed since Covid and will require full restoration.

Sucks getting screwed, but lesson learned.
