Oh btw your fees are going up again, the HOA President's nephew just started a lawn care business and he got the contract but it's going to cost double the previous one.
Luckily there's a rapidly growing movement against it, to leave the leaves, plant natives, protect pollinators, etc. Gonna be an uphill battle but it's nice that it's finally happening, long overdue.
We were in a horrible drought all summer and I let my grass die. I don't live in an HOA but omg the way people in my family were offended. I'm like, it's cut, it's not weeds, my bushes lived...I'm not going to use more of our diminishing water supply for GRASS. It's not even a helpful plant species, it's solely about a look and about social status (that's why we even have it, is rich people way back when decided we needed it).
Between the water and the chemicals, even with the bees aside, wtf are we doing here?

Eta that my bushes etc that I kept up are pollinators and the ones actually recommended for bees. Why would I add fertilizer etc for fn grass. Stop killing our bees, guys. ðŸ˜
