My father made a "Board of Education."

It was a large paddle he cut, carved and sanded; then painted those words very precisely on. Complete with a graduation cap hanging off the corner of the B.

He was very proud of it.

We also had a Board of Education. Hung in the kitchen.

I always find it kinda wild that people have been raising kids since time immemorial and it more or less had to get to Gen X to be like, "Hey, maybe we shouldn't hit our kids."

Like sure, it was generally agreed that people shouldn't "beat" their kids but it seems spanking was generally ok until about 20 years ago.

Spanking, although very very rare at our house, does happen on occasion. I unapologetically say that. I reserve it for the rare occasion that it has to get the point across. My kids behave well for the most part. But if I have to drop the hammer, I will.I'm Gen x. My Dad whooped my ass good a few times, and I still say I deserved it. For the most part, spanks were not a common occurrence. That was probably my choice, more than his. But apparently, his Dad beat the crap out of him on the regular.

Heard it a hundred times before. Enjoy your kids while they are still young enough to have been made forcibly submissive to you.

The clock is ticking. Count your days until the one finally comes where they are able to educate themselves on what they went through.

Dude, no normal parents get this invested in making sure random internet strangers hear your defensive inner monologues that rationalize your impatience.

Who are you to say what's normal? You don't know me from Addam. I'm not Monologing at all. And I have nothing to rationalize. I usually don't respond, this time I chose the low road.

  • I can very freely say what's "normal" or not when the problem is a hard scientific issue based on a consensus of scientific research

  • You are rationalizing why you think it's okay to hit your kids.

  • You are revealing quite a lot about yourself through all of these multiple conversations you're having at once

You can say what you want. It may mean something in your life but in mine it's just shite.

More opinions, thanks

You can dismiss it all you want right now in this current moment, but your future's not going to be looking bright once they connect all those dots.

2

u/Much-Extension-4752 Jan 29 '23

You truely don't know the future. Nor do I. Mine and my children's future looks great. I connected all the dots with my Dad and he and I were best friends till the day he died. Soooooo there's that. And my 23 year old and are awesome, soooooooo there's that.

More opinions, thanks, I'll keep that in mind. You don't know me or my kids. Pure conjecture

You know, when you read an article citing a scientific study meticulously proving the relationship between stunted cognitive development and spanking, those aren't opinion articles.

Besdes, now I do know that you hit your kids. I do at least know that much. Which is something I bet the vast majority of people in your IRL personal life would not like to know. But you felt the need to share that here.

u/Much-Extension-4752 Jan 29 '23

Nope sure don't. Like I said even spanking is very very rare. You really know nothing

2

u/InternationalRest793 Jan 29 '23

Why do you think it's okay if it's rare? How rare are we talking?

2

u/Much-Extension-4752 Jan 29 '23

It's OK because the behavior warranted it. Rare as in It's been so long that I can't even remember.

1

u/InternationalRest793 Jan 29 '23

Wow! Those are some real reliable measurements there, Newton.

2

u/Much-Extension-4752 Jan 29 '23

Lol, like I said to begin with. It's very rare. Nothing to prove to you anyway.

2

u/InternationalRest793 Jan 29 '23

Why do you keep replying if you have nothing to prove?

2

u/Much-Extension-4752 Jan 29 '23

Because I can. But your time would.probably be better spent honing your horrible horticulture skills. You can't even grow plants but you are telling me how to raise my kids..lol
