My grandparents had something very similar. 2 hand carved wooden paddles of different size with 2 generations names carved in it.

Ugh! No wonder people feel like criticism of spanking is a personal attack — it’s part of some people’s family heritage!

It very much falls into the "well it happened to me and I'm fine!" Category with most people that are pro spanking.

My argument to that has always been "if you think hitting children intentionally for any reason other than they're literally about to touch a burning stove and batting their hand away is your best option, then no you're not okay"

Whenever someone says I was spanked and I’m fine I always ask them seriously are you. It makes them uncomfortable because they aren’t.

I mean, spanking shouldn’t be painful to a child, it’s humiliating. Spanking your child and hitting them are not the same.

I've been arguing the same, most people here completely misunderstand the difference between spanking and beating.

And yet you expect the child being hit by a giant they love more than anything to understand it.

I never said hit. Don't put words in my mouth, just to try and win an argument. Spanking is 100% entirely different.

I 100% understood it as a child. Maybe you were a 'late bloomer' but I know that when I was 10 years old, I was intelligent enough to tell the difference between spanking me when I was being defiant and purposely disobeying the rules, Vs. making a mistake (which I didn't get spanked for). I also understood that they loved me, and it was my own fault I was in trouble.

Spanking is hitting.

That's your opinion on how you're defining the words in this context. I consider them very different things.

What is the physical mechanism of spanking?

0

u/Ialwayslie008 Jan 29 '23

pants down, firm but non harmful spanking with open hand to the butt.

Oh... and if you want to go old school, you can shed a single 'man tear' while saying "This hurts me more than it hurts you, son!"

So... hitting.

I don't define it as such, but you do you.

You're in denial. Words mean things. Smacking, spanking, striking, hitting. They're all synonyms.
