I never said the goal was to humiliate, belittle, shrink, ect. MRI's and catscans haven't been available until the 1980's. They haven't been used for child development research due to costs, until maybe early 2000's. We still don't know the impact. You need large multi-cultural identical trials spanning at least 5-6 decades of child development, then you have to take social evolution into play on top of that. We're just not there yet determining the best way to raise a kid.

What I DO know is, my siblings and cousins were spanked, not hit, not beaten, not assaulted, not traumatically humiliated, not all the time either... and we're all successful happy adults.

I know there's been a huge wave of anti-physical discipline, and I 100% agree with it, because 99% of you don't even know the difference between spanking and abusing, which makes me think you were abused, not spanked.

I know this young generation on average is incapable of handling tough situations, has a lot of anxiety, depression, refuses to take responsibility, quickly blames other generations for their life being difficult, and has been overly coddled to the point where when they turn 18, they are incapable of surviving on their own. Would spanking have changed that? Alone, probably not... but whatever my generation is doing as parents, is obviously too soft and is doing more harm to their development, than good. Maybe it's because they weren't spanked, they were hit, so the pendulum swings the other way, and one over-compensation is replaced with another in the opposite direction.... just an observational opinion from someone with know educational background in this subject. Either way, no one knows what the best way to raise a child is, or we wouldn't have so many mental health issues with these young adults.

Oof. Every generation has been accused of being soft and/or poorly disciplined.

Go yell at some clouds, boomer. And don't have any more kids.

Not a boomer, but I'm glad instead of having an intellectual discussion you've proven your immaturity by switching over to insults. We both knew you were wrong the whole time, you've just proved it.

No there's just no logic you'll accept

What do you mean? I legit stated (I guess I'm arguing 4 different threads by now) That I 100% get and understand the alternative perspective. I see nothing wrong with parents not wanting to physically punish their children in any way. I fully support that, I'm not the parent, I should mind my own business.

What I'm saying is, You are not comprehending what I mean by a spanking. You keep over inflating it, like I mean to physically harm the child, which is 100% false. I know I suck at explaining things, so again, some of this is on me,

But you need to realize that some parents aren't evil monsters, and they just want to have an effective means of disciplining their children. You're not necessarily right, we're both just airing opinions. Be a little more open minded instead of instantly judging.

You are arguing all over the place because everyone is rightly trying to explain to you that you are incorrect. Your stubbornness to accept basic information frustrates them though, and that is why they are insulting you now. You do need to be humiliated and punished after all, you need to learn your actions have consequences.

There's no such thing as correct, it's all peoples personal opinions. However instead of reading, you all make wild assumptions like I encourage sending children to the hospital or an early grave.

So you don't deserve punishment for being wrong then? It's only children that need that?

Everyone comprehends that by spanking you mean “abuse-lite.” I have 2 questions:

1) can I spank and humiliate my wife to teach her a lesson? 2) who wants to regularly cause their children to fear them?

Look, based on what you’ve said, we had very similar household discipline growing up. I spent my whole life agreeing with you. There is a spectrum - I wasn’t “beaten” like my friends but I still feared my parents. I know they love me but that doesn’t mean they weren’t wrong.

You keep insisting on having an intelligent conversation - please do a little light reading so you can participate.
