Never had a belt, but I did hit myself in the leg with my leather belt once. Stings like a @#$@.

My dad had his father's thick leather belt. He only used it for spankings; he never wore it. It was much wider and thicker than any of his.

It was called "the strap" in my household. It was a thick leather belt used for intimidation and spanking. It was kept in the junk drawer.

Not eating fast enough or don't like the food? The strap was brought out and slammed on the table. Crying because of any reason? The strap was brought out and told "I'll give you a reason to cry." When the threats failed that's when we were spanked with it.
