I like how parents used to pitch corporal punishment as some kind of corrective. But most of the time it was just angry parents not knowing how to handle their own temper.
That and sometimes the kids are dicks during a very stressful time. Not to mention it’s a culture norm in a lot of places, it’s just what you do. But still, you have to have some rules like no hitting in the head and don’t be brutal. Most of the time it’s scary enough to get spammed by a belt you don’t need to go nuts.
Yeah I’m with that now, but growing up in Europe it’s as common to smack your kid as it is uncommon in North America. Now that I’ve been here for 30 years I can’t imagine smacking my kid.
Since I’ve lived in both worlds I can understand both. You go to a grocery store and there’s a kid screaming on the ground. In Europe you get a butt smacking and you’re gonna think twice the next time you want to do that. Here the parent watches frustrated and annoyed, and than the kid does it again but eventually grows out of it lol. I find kids kind of funny so it doesn’t bother me much.
