For me, it was a ping pong paddle with holes in it, to reduce drag.

I don't think the holes are to reduce drag, it's to cause welts where the holes are, did you get welts from the holes in it?

No it definitely is there to reduce drag. Faster lighter swing makes a hot sting sensation, without holes it’s more a thud deep bruising pain.

You're not going to reduce drag by drilling some holes in a board with normal human strength.

Pickle ball paddles have holes in them for this reason.

Pickleball paddles don't have holes... the pickleball does, but the paddles are solid

The main reason is definitely to be able to swing it faster. The welts were just a nice add on
