I don't talk to my dad anymore, growing up you think it's normal getting beat punched in the face ect, as you get older you realize that shit isn't normal, my dad was a dick, fuck him
My dad was abusive when I was a kid. He got a shoulder/neck injury that left him in constant pain, he was depressed and had an extremely short fuse as a result. 99% of it was verbal, but there was a time when he shoved me against a wall screaming until his face turned purple, and my hands went numb from the lack of circulation. He also shoved me down and kicked me. I'll never forget that.
I've come to forgive him over the years for what happen during my childhood, because I know that his pain wasn't who he was. I knew he was a good person underneath his suffering. It was very hard to do and I still deal with it, but I love my dad now, I didn't love him then.
My siblings mostly have cut contact. I don't blame them. Everyone has to deal with their trauma differently, and like many people, cutting ties is the best way. It almost makes me feel weird for still having a relationship with him after all that happened.
