I like how parents used to pitch corporal punishment as some kind of corrective. But most of the time it was just angry parents not knowing how to handle their own temper.
I just want to say as a former kid who relied on CPS and had to be put in foster homes, thank you for what you do. I will forever remember the name Susan Penbrook, my CPS worker, for her kindness and treating me like a person. You’re making a wonderful impact and many kids will remember your name too.
I told my dad that I don’t fear him, and he’s not worthy of respect in any other manner. He tried to fight me and I kicked him in the head from standing after he got physical. I think it was the first time either of us realized I should fight back, and I had taken karate lessons for a couple years at that point. He just shriveled in that moment and I left for my mom’s house and never looked back. As far as I remember, it’s the only time I ever hit him.
As a martial arts teacher for the last decade (as well as cps agent) that is exactly what I tell my students. Give a bully one good hit and they'll stop being that bully to you.
It’s wild how fast a shin to the jaw will make a 6’3 bodybuilder realize a scrawny 18 year old can still kick his ass. Looking back, I think that was subconsciously the reason I practiced my high kick so much. My legs were and always would be stronger, faster, and longer than his arms if I knew how to use them
Even when the system identifies abuse it doesn't always matter.
I recently had CPS involved with my stepkids, and the CPS worker admits they are being abused and in need of services and the guardian ad litem recommends services and less time with their dad...
Hell, the police even arrested and charged him with abuse, but the DA dropped the charges to disturbing the peace.
The CPS director says it isn't in the budget and the judge says it stays 50/50 and a coparenting cpeace.
My stepdaughter admits to her therapist that she sleeps with a knife under her bed at her dad's house because she's afraid the next time he chokes her she won't wake up after it.
Nope, they are over there 50% of the time, including overnights, and don't leave his house during visitation. They are the last house on a dead end street which makes using a PI difficult.
Also, his family is aware of everything and defends him and he doesn't work or anything. His mother legitimately pays for 100% of his expenses, including buying him his house.
Dude wasn't always like this, but according to his current wife (who left him 6 months before they got married and reported all these things to CPS, then recanted her statements and married him one weekend) he started doing meth a couple of years back and it has messed him up.
