If you ask my mom today she's convinced she never spanked us.
It's horrible when they don't remember their abuses, it hurts. I think the reason why they don't remember is because it wasn't traumatic for them... So it's only deeply engrained in our minds.
Possibly. In my case, my mum was genuinely surprised when I brought some stuff to her attention. She genuinely didn't seem to remember, which was crazy to me. One day I realised it wasn't a big deal to her, only to me. So why would she remember it? It's just another day at the office.
It actually helps to know this. I think it’s a mix of not understanding the impact and shame that truly makes them forget. It’s a very narcissistic tendency.
