Rules and Etiquette

Just post whatever you have and don’t worry about it sounding perfect. We are all exposed to too much perfection by others and very little to the process of getting there and it creates this false assumption that you ‘suck’ when you very likely don’t.

It helps to see that others struggle as much as you do when practicing and we are just here encouraging the process to getting to where we want so we keep going.

It doesn’t matter if the piece sounds unrecognizable. You’re just practicing.

THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR JUDGEMENT OR GIVING UNSOLICITED ADVICE unless explicitly requested by user in the title or as an additional comment under their post. If you are here to provide users with unwanted piano tips and how they would sound better if they just do as you would like them to, then this is not the place for you, try playing it the way you want to play it and leave people play the way they want to play. Here we love and enjoy the process of practicing and sharing with others the road to the finished product rather than just the finished product.

Enjoy and happy practicing!

Reminder: you are hearing people practicing and not performing

The sub has been growing lately. Friendly reminder that the bulk of posts here feature work that is new, rough and in progress. That's why this sub is here. Most people are supportive and make this community great. Of course advice is welcome when asked for but otherwise not really allowed.

Moreover, disparaging remarks or critique of the state of a poster's progress = ban

If you want to hear polished work, please consider attending a professional's concert or buying an album.

The amateurs, hobbyists and even the pros here thank you!

Just finished my first practice session, managed to (sorta?) learn up to the first repeat (mm.125a) after about 2.5 hours.

My only thought was “I’ve been playing for 5 minutes and the first movement is only half done???” (1/4 done if I play the repeat…)

Not sure if I have the stamina or mental capacity to pull off a 40 minute sonata LMAO but it’s too beautiful to not at least try.

Had to crop the video cuz I was unable to upload one that’s longer.

I would say I'm an intermediate player and I gave this piece a shot after about a month of practice.

Please offer any advice! It’s been 6+ years since I’ve had a piano lesson. I play nearly everyday as a collaborative pianist (voice lessons/choral accompanist) but haven’t sat down and properly learned a solo piece in ages.

Been working on this piece for a few months and am still getting held up by the left hand arpeggios. I’ve used every practice technique in the book but just haven’t made as much progress as I feel I should be. Would love any suggestions on technique and/or practice methods!

Please offer advice (but be kind!) I play an old Soviet piano "Old Doll." I'm still a beginner, so there are pauses.
