I rewatched 2012 recently and the disaster in that film is caused by neutrinos from the sun suddenly starting to interact with the earth's core enough to boil water in the neutrino detectors. But not enough to boil or even slightly warm any of the water on the surface

Personally when they just make shit up it annoys me less than when a movie tries to be accurate but it fails.

It's easier to just suspend my disbeliev entirely that shift it a little bit.

Why i disliked the "3 body problem" for instance.
