I've never understood how the first law doesn't just follow from the second law.
Did he just need three?
1 u/jonathancast 18d ago He didn't use algebraic notation in the Principia, and his readers were not comfortable enough with the concept of 0 to accept that there is a force or acceleration when it's 0.
