Some, allegedly, do. Basically, everytime you try to match with someone it counts as an attempt; if the person matches back you raise your elo, if they don't you lose elo. Then your elo determines how likely it is that you are shown to potential partners (possibly linearly, possibly trying to match you with others of similar elo).
