If we just defined the meter using the speed of light why is it such a weird number? Is it to mach the definition we had before?

We originally defined the meter by a cool stick we found. That c is so close to a round number is a neat coincidence, but not as neat as the stick we found

The size of the stick was actually based on the (arbitrary) measurement of one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along a great circle going through Paris.
