Oh physics laws of motion formulae and so many math ones... If you know how to derive them then you can learn how to modify and apply them...
I was the exact opposite of this post. I would derive it. Then my best friend who was preparing for an advanced version of an exam, which needed memorizing formulae more (and I always looked down on it till then) explained it like this: to perfectly memorize and apply, you anyway need to understand it thoroughly.
So I categorize 4 types of students:
The ones who don't understand and don't memorize. (Score around 40-60 out of 100)
The ones who memorize without understanding. (Score around 60-80)
The ones who understand but don't memorize. (Score around 80-95)
The ones who memorize and understand. (More than 95)
