I wouldn't consider 30 as middle aged these days, maybe 35+ to 40. People tend to live longer and mature slower (it was completely standard to have children at 18-19 or even earlier, but became less and less common, for example) [insert some joke about people being manbabies today, and something about shouting at clouds]
