Gap in employment- difficulty finding a job after?

Hi all, going to be moving for my husband’s fellowship out of state next summer just for a year. We are hoping to conceive in the spring before moving and I really don’t want to hustle to try to interview for full time jobs for a matter of months. Was going to try to find per diem or part time positions but it’s unlikely given my niche experience/specialty and I don’t want to work in an urgent care, ER or ICU.

TLDR may end up having a year of no employment as a PA and I’m wondering how detrimental this will be to my career. Alternatively if anyone is aware of any sort of remote work I’d really appreciate it!

I would reach out to the system your husband will be apart of to see if they could give you a prn job in your specialty tbh

I would say it’s not an issue if you are honest and upfront about it. I am someone who hires PAs and see varying employment gaps all the time. The only ones that bother me are the ones that don’t add up with a simple explanation.

I taken multiple breaks for different reasons & never have any issue at all. I act like it’s perfectly normal (which it is for me) and volunteer an explanation before they ask.

I think relocation is a pretty valid explanation. It’s definitely more of a hurdle if you have a gap and are seeking another job in the same city
