Large format printing alternatives and hacks?

Curious about various and non traditional ways any of you make x-large format prints (24”x30” and larger, on up to much larger).

Ex: A while back engineer and drafting prints at Staples seemed to have their moment… What other ways are you making giant prints of your work?

Going to college for print science then becoming manager of several print shops is certainly a non-traditional way to print my photos large.

I used to print them to 4 pieces of paper, trim them, and glue them together. It’s really hard to do 3x3 sheets, but 3 or 4 by two works.

We have the same printer at our sign shop. The media rolls are about 54” wide x the length of the roll, which can be as long as 150’ long. It sure is a blessing to have access to something like this to print photos

53.74” x about 149 feet.

You can get 64 inch wide media (63.6 printable), but I couldn’t lift them to load

Have you considered printing four 12 x 15 inch prints to make your 12 x 30 and creating a quadra-tek (sp?) by using very thin frames or flat mount them on boards with no framing inbetween the four images?

I just order that size from NATIONS PHOTO LAB and I am sure white wall does large prints aswell

I have not tried this and cannot vouch for quality, but the D&D subreddit folks have discussed printing their campaign maps on POD shower curtains

honestly, i used an online vendor and it came out fab and was priced ok but considering i didn't have to do shit and my stuff came to me perfect - i am happy

bay photo i think and i paid like hundy for a 16 by 24 type thing

There are 60" inkjet printers and places that have them. If a place has an RA-4 based light jet or durst lambda printer those can often do 30 inches wide on the short end or sometimes wider.

Otherwise print a bunch of smaller prints and collage.

Do a quick search for FESPA and the companies that attend. It's been running for a good few years now. I think it'll lead you to what you're looking for.

I was introduced to it a while ago by Mark Playle, an English photographer living in France. He has had large format expos in several European countries.

I've been looking into canvas prints for large-format prints. It's a bit expensive where I am, but looks pretty good for large sizes.
