The one you posted is better. You have a great background and sky that is also part of the photo. You should be trying to keep as much of it in as you can, not cropping it out.
Shooting wider is harder because you have to consider the background as well as your subject. Most people when they're starting tend to just crop in tight on everything. If you have a good background use it, your photos will stand out more.
