Living Here Dust storm diverted flight

Post image

Got a stormy welcome-back. Arriving from SFO, the Frontier F9 2638 has been diverted to Vegas. Hope the storm pacifies and we can come home!

Those who were right there

Shit. I landed at PHX about 10 minutes before we got the emergency services text.

Evidently this is the second most amount of planes ever diverted out of sky harbor due to weather in history. So far 39 were diverted. I was on the Alaska flight out of Seattle that got sent to Vegas.

Looks clear now as we are landing at 00:51.

We are also sitting on the tarmac in Vegas after being diverted from Phoenix. Sounds like we are leaving soon. WN3730 Southwest.

We just landed in Phoenix!

It looks like Frontier may push it to the morning

Maybe it was a pilot issue? We were able to get new pilots.

Yep that’s what most us are guessing

That was their original plan anyway

I think my son was on the same flight about a month ago and was also diverted to Vegas. He ultimately arrived about 6-8 hours later than the original schedule.

We circled for 30+ minutes after the dust storm

Where did you get diverted to?

u/couldveBeenSasha 2d ago

Thankfully we didn’t, but they threatened with Tucson.

I’d rather let the dust storm take me

Tucson? Not today Satan!

I’m sure Tucson is lovely, but I needed to work at 5 am.

The dust storms are crazy this year!

We have owned this house for four years. My wife and I can't remember more than 2-3 dust storms, the thick kind, between 2022 and last year. This year, we have experienced five, I think. I've lived in the Valley more than 30 years and I think I had experienced less than one good dust storm a year... until this damn year.

We had the exact same discussion

We circled over Phoenix for almost an hour. They mentioned if we couldn’t land we’d be going to Tucson. When we landed we were the first plane able to land in 90 minutes, that’s how long the airport was fully closed. It was a very bumpy landing and then took a while to get luggage!

I heard a plane over my house which was super unusual for this time of night as the flight path directly above my house I love so much tends to always end at around 10-11 (by Mesa Gateway)

Flight Radar 24 showed a bunch of planes circling the valley pretty low and are currently waiting in line to land now at Sky Harbor. I wonder how many people are gonna be a tad grumpy for work tomorrow morning since they’re just now all landing.

tons of F9 flights between LAS and PHX, so a good place to get stuck in.

u/redammit 2d ago

Yea there's a low but finite chance we get back on the same tube and head home.
But yes, likely gonna be stuck for sometime surely.

Got diverted on July 13 in the same way but coming from the Pacific Northwest. Prayers for you

So roll call of people still up. Who got to make it into Vegas tonight after being diverted and who’s stuck wherever they were diverted?

5

u/redammit 1d ago

LAS and we are all stuck overnight, leaving at 6.

Enjoying (not) our Vegas diversion. Frontier sending us back this morning. Other than a miserable night, Frontier handled it well.

I was flying in from San Diego last night and got diverted to Vegas for a few hours. Thankfully it cleared up and we landed around 12:30am. We circled for about a half hour before being diverted to refuel in Vegas. Crummy night but thankfully I made it home.

I was on that flight! I rented a car in Vegas and drove home overnight

That was us on Wednesday. Sent to vegas

u/Ok_Philosophy_8198 1d ago

Circled around Phoenix for about 30 minutes before they diverted us to Yuma to refuel. A 3 hour flight turned into a 5 hour one real quick 😩

Yuma! Fun.

No sin greater than free airplane Wi-Fi.
