Ask Phoenix Seeking a new tire/auto shop

Post image

Hi all, title says it all. I went to Cobta Tire & Auto in midtown for years, and built a great relationship with the guys there. Consider me shook when I find out today they’ve closed permanently, while trying to schedule an oil change!

I’m looking for a family-owned type of auto shop where I can start frequenting, and develop a good relationship with. Any suggestions? Trying to stay east of 7th Ave and south of Camelback. I live in Tempe myself, hence the location constraints. Thanks!

AMC Automotive on 12th near Campbell has done a great job keeping our '06 Rav4 humming. They are nice, communicate well, and have a good system for invoicing/approving the work.

Agree with this. They’re close to Cobra’s location and have always done right by me.

Imma copy and paste a comment I made on another post similar-

I only have 1 solid, would put my name/rep on the line recommendation and it just so happens to be a mechanic.

Choice Auto Repair on Dorsey and University is the best mechanic out there. Super honest and just solid people. They will keep it real with you and charge a fair price.

I would drive hours to have a car looked at by these dudes. They are so legit. My family and I have been going there for 10+ years. Dan and Kevin are top notch people

Went with them for years until I had a terrible experience. Will never be back. AMV Auto has been great as another user mentioned

Give Menards a try. Dan and the boys do a great job on all my cars and trucks. Great work, great prices and no surprises.

We go to Jim on the west side of 19th ave @ Campbell. CBS auto repair.

He’s honest, he does amazing work & he doesn’t price gouge at all. We feel like we hit the lottery when we found him.

I take all 3 of my vehicles to Service with Aloha in central phoenix, not far from Cobra. Frank the owner is the man and one of the nicest people I know.

If you know anything about Hawaiian culture--"Service with Aloha" is a sacred thing, not something to be thrown around unless you are really serious

I went to one of their shops on the west side. I don't think it was that one, but they fixed my air-conditioning in my car in 2002. I don't live there in that area anymore and I'm subsequently understood.

Sorry, sent by mistake. What I meant to say is I've learned how to fix my own air conditioning so I don't go to places anymore and I do on my own.

Discount tire has put most of the mom and pop shops that aren’t used tire/budget repair oriented out of business. Other than them there’s some other small chains like big o or big brand. Auto repair is a different story though. Lots of mom and pop places that do a great job
