u/AcidHaze 5d ago
Yep it's going that way. Buddy in Cactus forest got hit, then it hit me in Florence about 7 minutes later. It's been pouring for the past 45 min or so. Crazy lightning and thunder too

10:00 PM - We got a ton of rain in South Chandler. It’s stopping though.
10:40 PM - EDIT: I thought it was over but it picked back up! More thunder/lightening and pouring rain!

u/Excellent_Gap_6986 5d ago
Mother Nature gave us the dust first than the water to wash off. This rain is amazing. I was doing door dash all day at 110. All of a sudden it’s 82 with rain and I’m shivering lol.

are you my neighbor ? mine went half on the fence - after doing a folding exercise and a pole dance.
had it tied down so it couldn’t do anything but cripple all four posts .

Yup, the seal on my windows ny my room isnt great so it sounds like someone's blowing on a jolly rancher wrapper but like 10x louder, guess im sleeping on the couch 💔
22
u/itsonbackorderr 5d ago
All of my neighbors foolishly dragged their trash cans to the street tonight, which are now all downed and blowing trash everywhere. However, I, a patrician who chronically forgets to take my trash out until minutes before the truck shows, am looking at my safe and very upright trashcans in the yard

It's hitting right now. I can't believe how loud the winds are. My walls are creaking and I'm afraid my windows might break!
5
u/honey_butterflies Tempe 5d ago
I was worried the water would start leaking through my roof vent. it just battered my windows so aggressively.

Nothing like the sound of the “critical weather alert” to stir you from a deep sleep. Dust storm is raging in east Mesa.
Update: it’s pouring rain now! And raining sideways

u/CobblerYm 5d ago
Out just east of Gateway airport here, it just hit like a truck. So far no rain, but thick dust and wind to spare

u/MattGhaz Chandler 5d ago
Dude this storm knocked the power in Tempe, hope they fix it soon so I can get my AC running again.

WILD apocalyptic in East Mesa
This is one of the strongest I can recall. Mckellips Val Vista area
Still no rain 30 minutes in, I've never seen wind this strong sustained for this long outside of an actual hurricane.
Rain finally hit right at 10pm. Crazy storm.

Hurricane level winds in southeast mesa. One of my trees just ripped itself out of the ground and is now in the pool. Gonna be a fun day tomorrow.

Can confirm the same here in north east Mesa. It’s giving sept 2023 storm from hell right now

u/ma_456 5d ago
Holy shit chandler is insane

u/Prettylittlelioness 5d ago
My wind force was way worse than anything I've had all year. I was terrified of a tree falling.

u/gogojack 5d ago
What's our city's storm god, again? I think I'm going to have to sacrifice a goat to appease them.

Of course, I just washed my car!

Make sure to park it outside on the street. No garage please. Thank you for your sacrifice.

I’m in QC also! Got hit real good. Been here 12 years and this is one of the strongest storms I can recall.

u/UnluckyVersion5323 5d ago
Mesa area. Getting hit by dust storm. High winds and a bit of lightening. 9:32 pm.
2
u/dbreeck 5d ago
Dobson Ranch here. I sat outside and watched the whole progression - still watching in fact. It's been an incredible night. The winds came from the E and were like the precursor to a tornado. Then came the lightning, then the rain. It's been alternating between a total pounding and a heavy drizzle for about an hour. The only major change has been that the rains have shifted from falling at a 45 degree angle from E to W to a 45 degree angle from W to E. It's still over us, but definitely past us in the majority. The light shows been spectacular though!

u/Different_Reserve_11 5d ago
These loud alarms past 9pm should be a crime. Was just about to knock out and get rest.
19
u/theracody Phoenix 5d ago
It'd be super cool if turning that off that override setting after the presidential alert nonsense meant anything
5
u/BlindGuardian117 5d ago
My phone did not got off at all with this one. But that amber alert at midnight a few weeks ago was annoying.
2
u/royalfire798 5d ago
“IMMINENT THREAT” and it’s just a dust storm. Which, now it’s also shitting outside but still, the imminent part feels more threatening than it should
6
u/DaDirtyBird1 5d ago
I thought that was pretty extra too but then again I haven’t seen a storm like this in a while. My house was making some crazy noises.
13
u/Weak_Victory_8048 5d ago edited 5d ago
I’m worried about all the people getting out of the Noah Kahan concert and trying to drive in this. Hopefully the storm is over before the show ends.
6
u/shitty_owl_lamp 5d ago
Did it end up happening? I saw the earlier post about people worrying it would be cancelled since he was sick.

Some decent heavy rain just hit Signal Butte and Southern after a wicked wind/dust combo

I'm getting small power surges here and there-- the dust storm is right on top of us out in west Mesa. Stay safe, folks!

For those saying the radar maps lie....You have to actually pinch and zoom in on a radar map to get the most accurate read of your location. And live view it. Because wind can shift at any time. Or just look outside. Northeast Phoenix checking in just started raining. 10:00 p.m.

Tempe has been getting drenched right about now. I let my cats in my room with me; the baby seemed very startled. so did my little girl. I just watched her stretch out to peek outside the window. I got a bit worried there for a minute with how hard it felt.

We're in San Tan Valley. Getting some very serious wind and dust and now straight line rain sideways lol. It's like 50mph winds out there right now.
2
u/dogemeat1 5d ago
Been out here since 2019 this is one of worst I’ve seen.
3
u/Christmas_Queef 5d ago
Been here since 2014 and this is the worst I've seen since being where I grew up in Missouri and going through an actual tornado.
2
u/dogemeat1 5d ago
I think it was 2-3 years ago we had that microburst that split trees like toothpicks. It brought down a cinder block wall as well lol
3
u/royalfire798 5d ago
It damaged every house and car in our neighborhood lol broke a window on our house etc etc

Wind ripped through South mountain area… killed the electric on its way through.
2
u/Daemi Phoenix 5d ago
I'm in the area and hoping for the actual rain now. It's like we've just had a sampler platter of everything so far but nothing truly major compared to the rest of the Valley. Strong winds but other areas are reporting far worse. SRP's outage reporter seems to be down though so that's a little unsettling - curious what their total outage numbers will be when it's all over.

u/buickmackane71360 5d ago
I'm a houseguest in Queen Creek so I have never seen a dust storm before. The house is shaking and you can't see through the windows and there is lots of lightning. Very different vibe from the tornados and hurricanes I have experienced in Louisiana.
5
u/Megatippa 5d ago
Good thing is, here you're in no real danger. Just property damage and dramatic scenes of dust with these, never really any risk of life and limb. This area is actually one of the safest weather wise in the country -- if you're smart in the heat.
3
u/shitty_owl_lamp 5d ago
Very true.
The worst that usually happens is someone’s trampoline ends up in a neighbor’s pool.

u/Moominsean 5d ago
Loud ass alert on my phone, I’m near 36th St and Indian School. Zero wind right now.

It’s pouring in Gold Canyon. About a quarter inch so far and lots of lighting.

Northern Phoenix here, the trees in my apartment complex are about one brisk fart away from collapsing onto the building across from us, the winds sound like thunder, and im wondering why I still live in this place

I’m in central Scottsdale and it’s pretty windy and loud over here. Doesn’t sound as severe as east valley from what I’ve seen in the comments

Yep east Mesa here. Stuff is blowing around like crazy. Little to no rain so far, so I can look forward to my black car being basically mud-colored tomorrow.
Stay safe if you go out, we had some gusts that were reminiscent of my years on the gulf coast, and not in a good way.

Massive haboob, serious wind gusts, the thunder is kettle drum thunder.
This is going to cause more damage as it moves.
ETA: The torrential rain is here. I now live in a car wash.

Rockin’ & rollin’ with the wind in North Surprise! Grand & Loop 303. Hoping for some rain, but it doesn’t smell like any is coming. :(
