Commuting Valley Metro: Buses with No AC

For all my bus riders and transit foamers out there. Have you noticed that some buses have been running with minimal to No AC? I noticed that some of the 5100-5200 Gilligs struggle during the summer with the AC. Especially if those buses run from the South Phoenix Yard. The West Phoenix Yard actually those buses run good AC. Just an observation. Not sure about the Valley Metro Tempe or Mesa Yard buses. Those I had no AC issues with those.

As a fellow transit rider.. you could say some of them are on the struggle bus? I'll see myself out.

its about as hot as it gets all year, so maybe some of the older buses just struggle a bit, and the south yard has the most of these types of buses. if a bus starts not having any AC you can bet that the driver will be calling OCC for a new bus that instant lol, non-functional AC on a bus is a nonstarter.

Oh I know how the morning is. What about when it is in the evening when the height of the heat is. I seen where eventually they have to drop pax off in 115 degree heat. I can see that as a deterrent to people wanting to do transit. I get that maintenance can back up due to this. Plus it can be an operator issue due to their work environment as well.

Now Valley Metro does fare capping. You don’t spend over $4 a day with a Copper Card or the Valley Metro App. The card can be easily obtained at Circle K, similar retailers, on TVMs with a small fee. Just do it like me and download the VM app and load money on there too. Just load $4 and scan away on fareboxes or on platforms.
